The Borg

locutus1 picture

Borg: Humanoid Cybernetic organisms, half-organic, half-synthetic. an immensely powerful race that hails from the distant Delta quadrant of our galaxy. The Borg implant themselves with cybernetic devices by means of nanotechnology and other sophisticated ways, giving them great technological and combat capabilities. Different Borg are equipped with different hardware for specific tasks. Each Borg is tied into a sophisticated subspace communication network, forming the Borg Collective. In the Borg collective all the Borg minds are grouped into a single consciousness and the idea of individuality is non-existent and has no meaning. In this form they represent a truly alien state of being to the human existence.

The Borg are on a quest to better themselves in order to achieve perfection. They accomplish this by raiding other worlds, planets, cultures and civilizations and assimilating them into the Borg collective, thus absorbing all technology and constantly improving their own, absorbing all traits and characteristics, both physical and otherwise, and assimilating them. Humanoid life forms are themselves assimilated by the Borg, by way of nano probes and cybernetic implants that turn a humanoid life form into a complete Borg drone.

Borg ships are cubical and have no central point of command, in fact using a highly decentralized structure, not having any one part designed for a specific function.

Borg technology is highly advanced and among their most powerful abilities is their ability to adapt to new situations quickly. Each Borg shares his information with the entire collective, thus his experience is transferred immediately to all other Borg and thus improvements due to adaptation are incorporated into all other Borg immediately.

The Borg have become the prime threat to human life in the 24th century, and are Starfleet's most advanced and powerful enemy. Opposing them are Captain Jean Luc Picard, Commander William Riker, Lt. Commander Data, Lt. Worf and the rest of the Enterprise-D crew, in an interstellar battle against terrible odds, in order to protect the freedom, identity, personality and basic individuality of every living being in the Federation, and hold the line against assimilation by the Borg.
